About

I love data. I have spent 15 years working with all forms of data, in different fields ranging from medicine to journalism. I like to keep up with recent advancements in the modern data stack and the AI/LLM space.

Outside of work and hobby work, I enjoy cooking savory food, running long distances, and spending time with family.

Experience

Software Engineer, Analytics Data Products

2023 — Present

The New York Times · New York, NY

Built and maintained ELT pipelines processing millions of NYT users' behavioral data, using Fivetran, BigQuery, dbt, Terraform, and Python to integrate data from diverse sources.

Tech Lead

2024 — Present

Signs of Good Food · Minneapolis, MN

Co-founded a chef-led platform creating ASL-first educational media. Built the website and internal tools (Next.js, Python, Supabase) and designed multi-camera recording and lighting workflows for filming and storing high-quality signing content.

Data Scientist

2022 — 2024

Office of Chief Bilingual Officer, Gallaudet University · Washington, D.C.

Implemented an AWS-based data pipeline in Python to support the creation of an internal sign language recognition product, using video-based model inputs and data ingestion. Analyzed internal consistency of the American Sign Language Placement Test (ASLPT).

Data Analyst, Product

2021 — 2023

Netlify · San Francisco, CA

Worked directly with executive-level stakeholders at a rapidly growing startup to define product direction by building, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting on full-stack data projects, using Python, dbt, and SQL.

Research Associate

2021 — 2022

School of Science, Technology, Accessibility, Mathematics, and Public Health, Gallaudet University · Washington, D.C.

Evaluated disability bias in deep learning models using Python, performed statistical analyses to evaluate findings, and published and presented a first-author manuscript at an international workshop.

Graduate Research Assistant

2017 — 2019, 2020 — 2021

Rochester Institute of Technology · Rochester, NY

Assessed recommendation algorithms to expedite literature search in astrophysics, using Python, natural language processing, and information retrieval technologies.

Graduate Research Assistant

2019 — 2020

Knights Lab, University of Minnesota · Minneapolis, MN

Analyzed how different sequencing technologies affect strain-level metagenomic DNA assembly, using Python, to help define best practices for elucidating links between the gut microbiome and health.

Visiting Research Scientist

2019

University of Bonn (NSF IRES #1559450) · Bonn, Germany

Created and evaluated an index that assesses how disaster risk reduction geographic information capacities vary within Germany and from country to country, in collaboration with the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security.

Graduate Research Assistant

2018

University of Rochester Medical Center · Rochester, NY

Developed a biochemical feature vector, using Mathematica, to characterize antigenic similarity of influenza hemagglutinin proteins for use in a hybrid experimental-computational model predicting individual influenza vaccine responses in large-scale clinical studies.

Graduate Web Developer

2018

National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Rochester Institute of Technology · Rochester, NY

Worked with a team of 5 to design and develop an open source software suite for local deaf communities to create bilingual digital books for children using folktales from their local cultures. Finalist in All Children Reading: Sign On For Literacy Prize ($150,000).

Post-Baccalaureate Cancer Research Trainee

2014 — 2017

National Institutes of Health · Bethesda, MD

Studied the biochemical pharmacology of ligand interactions with the capsaicin receptor TRPV1, an initial step in drug development for treating TRPV1-mediated chronic pain.

Projects

A selection of things I've built or contributed to.

Signs of Good Food

A recipe website with unit conversion, serving size scaling, search, and an admin dashboard.

ReactDatabases

Global Deaf Restaurant Map

An interactive map of deaf-owned and deaf-run restaurants around the world.
